A canopy or carport needs thoughtful material choice. Too light and beams sag; too heavy wastes budget. See our canopy range and configurator.

Douglas vs hardwood

Most garden canopies use Douglas posts and beams. Large spans or snow load may need hardwood or steel.

Span and spacing

Typically 3–4 m max span for timber beams. Purlins at 40–80 cm centres depending on roofing.

Roofing

Polycarbonate, bitumen or EPDM - each needs correct pitch and drainage.

Treatment

Untreated timber may grey. Treat cut ends immediately.
