Spruce Timber – Structural Beams, Boards & Battens
Spruce timber — also known as whitewood — is the most versatile and affordable structural timber available. At Houthandel Jan Sok you can buy spruce as structural beams, planed boards and battens in all standard dimensions, available directly from our warehouse in Meppel.
What is spruce timber used for?
Spruce is the standard timber for construction and building work. It is lightweight, easy to work with and available in C16 and C24 strength classes for load-bearing applications. Typical uses include:
- Roof structures — Purlins, rafters, tile battens and roof sheathing.
- Wall framing — Studwork, cladding and interior fit-out.
- Joinery & interior work — Planed boards for shelving, cabinets and worktops.
- Scaffolding & temporary structures — Rough-sawn scaffold boards and beams.
Planed or rough-sawn?
We supply spruce timber in two finishes: planed (smooth, dimensionally accurate, ideal for visible surfaces) and rough-sawn (for structural use where appearance is less important). All beams are available in lengths up to 6 metres.
Spruce is not naturally durable for permanent outdoor use. For exterior applications choose pressure-treated timber or apply an opaque stain to spruce. For advice on the right timber for your project, get in touch.
