Short answer: For a flat shed or canopy roof, choose EPDM (about €15 per m²) or bitumen roofing felt (about €14.38 per m²) on a closed deck. For a pitched roof, shingles (about €10.22 per m² plus underlay) or corrugated sheets work; corrugated sheets sit directly on purlins and need no roof boards. Houthandel Jan Sok in Meppel supplies every layer: roof boards, membrane, roofing, roof trim and zinc gutters. prices as of 5 October 2026, incl. VAT.
Roofing compared
| Product | Roof | Price | Per m² | Deck |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EPDM, roll 3.66 m wide | Flat roof with fall | €54.90 per m | approx. €15.00 | Closed deck |
| Bitumen roofing felt, roll 1 × 6 m | Flat or low pitch | €86.25 per roll | approx. €14.38 | Closed deck, overlap |
| Roof shingles black, pack approx. 3 m² | Pitched roof | €30.65 per pack | approx. €10.22 | Roof boards + underlay |
| Cembrit corrugated sheet black, 1.10 × 1.53 m | Pitched roof | €30.20 per sheet | approx. €17.94 gross | On purlins |
| PVC corrugated sheet clear, 1.10 × 1.53 m | Translucent roof | €24.70 per sheet | approx. €14.68 gross | On purlins |
| Tile-profile sheet black, 1.10 × 1.55 m | Pitched roof | €34.10 per sheet | approx. €20.00 gross | On battens |
"Gross" means the full sheet size; because of overlap a corrugated sheet covers less. For corrugated sheets, calculate with the covering size from the manufacturer installation guide.
EPDM, bitumen or shingles?
- EPDM is a rubber roofing membrane. With a roll width of 3.66 m you often cover a shed roof in one piece, without seams. Bond and finish the edges according to the supplier system. More: EPDM roofing.
- Bitumen roofing felt is the traditional, low-cost choice for sheds and outbuildings. You lay overlapping strips and nail them down. For torch-on bitumen on a house roof, hire a roofer.
- Shingles are bitumen roof tiles for pitched roofs. They sit on roof boards with an underlay (1 × 15 m, €93.45) beneath. Follow the manufacturer minimum pitch.
- Corrugated and tile-profile sheets are quick to lay and only need purlins or battens. Cembrit fibre cement is heavier and quieter in rain than plastic; PVC lets light through. A hinged ridge set costs €67.10, corrugated sheet screws €32.50 per 50.
Roof boards and deck
| Deck | Size | Price from |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure-treated roof boards | 18 × 145 mm, 3.00 m | €8.70 |
| Douglas fir roof boards | 18 × 145 mm, 3.00 m | €9.90 |
| Oak roof boards, planed | 18 × 130 mm, 2.50 m | €22.65 |
| OSB 18 mm | 0.61 × 2.44 m | €17.40 |
| Underlayment 18 mm | 1.22 × 2.44 m | €43.80 |
Roof boards give a timber ceiling inside; sheet material is quicker to lay. For roof boards, calculate with the covering width on the product page plus 5 to 10 percent cutting waste. Under tiles or corrugated sheets, a breathable membrane (from €1.10 per m) helps carry off condensation.
Worked example: flat roof 3 × 2 metres with EPDM
A shed of 3.00 × 2.00 m with a 10 cm overhang all round has a roof area of 3.20 × 2.20 m (7.04 m²).
| Part | Quantity | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Underlayment 18 mm, 1.22 × 2.44 m | 3 sheets | €131.40 |
| EPDM 3.66 m wide | 3 m | €164.70 |
| Aluminium roof trim, 2.5 m | 4 lengths | €51.80 |
| Aluminium roof trim external corner | 2 | €25.90 |
| Total | €373.80 |
Excluding EPDM adhesive, sealant, screws and gutter. prices as of 5 October 2026, incl. VAT. For a black edge, the black roof trim costs €22.90 per 2.5 m.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest roofing for a shed?
Per square metre, shingles (about €10.22 per m²) and bitumen roofing felt (about €14.38 per m²) are the cheapest, but both need a closed deck of roof boards or sheet. Corrugated sheets cost more per m² but sit directly on purlins, so the total is often lower. Prices as of 5 October 2026, incl. VAT.
EPDM or bitumen on a shed roof?
EPDM is a rubber roofing membrane that you lay in one piece on a small roof, without seams. Bitumen felt is cheaper and is laid in overlapping strips and nailed down. For a flat roof that has to last, most customers choose EPDM; for a simple store, felt is enough.
What deck does EPDM need?
EPDM needs a flat, dry and closed deck, such as 18 mm underlayment or roof boards, with a fall so water runs off. Bond and finish the edges according to the supplier system.
Do you sell plastic gutters?
No. Houthandel Jan Sok supplies zinc box gutters (M280, 2 metres) with brackets, outlets and 80 mm downpipes, with the KOMO quality mark. Plastic gutters are not in our range.
Can I put corrugated sheets on a summer house?
Yes. Cembrit fibre cement sheets, PVC sheets or metal tile-profile sheets are laid on purlins or battens, with overlap and profile screws with washers. Follow the manufacturer minimum roof pitch and purlin spacing.
