Step-by-step guide

1. Prepare the ground
Remove turf and level the soil. Lay weed-control membrane and spread a layer of gravel for drainage.

2. Substructure
Place hardwood or aluminium joists on adjustable deck supports. Maintain 40–60 cm centre-to-centre spacing.

3. Lay decking boards
Screw the boards onto the joists with stainless-steel screws (pre-drill!). Leave a 5–8 mm gap for ventilation.

4. Finishing touches
Trim the edges straight and fit an end-cap profile. For hardwood: apply oil for a warm colour.
