Pressure-Treated Timber – Posts, Boards, Cladding & Fence Panels
Pressure-treated timber is pine that has been vacuum-impregnated under high pressure with a preservative, making it resistant to rot, mould and wood-boring insects. The characteristic green colour fades over time to a natural grey. At Houthandel Jan Sok you can buy pressure-treated timber as posts, boards, weatherboard cladding and fence panels — the affordable alternative to hardwood for outdoor applications.
Benefits of pressure-treated timber
- Long lifespan — 15 to 20 years, even in ground contact and damp conditions.
- Affordable — Significantly cheaper than hardwood or Douglas fir with comparable durability.
- Versatile — Suitable for fences, pergolas, playground equipment, garden boundaries and light structural use.
- Easy to work with — Saws, drills and screws just like untreated pine.

Veelgestelde vragen
Is pressure-treated timber safe?
Yes, modern pressure-treated timber uses copper-based salts (Wolmanit CX) that are safe for garden and playground applications.
Can I paint pressure-treated timber?
Yes, but allow the timber to dry for 3–6 months first. The wood continues to shrink after treatment and paint adheres better to dry timber.
How long does pressure-treated timber last?
Pressure-treated timber lasts an average of 15–20 years, depending on the application. With permanent ground contact this is shorter (10–15 years). For maximum lifespan we recommend placing posts on concrete piers rather than embedding them in soil.
Is pressure-treated timber suitable for playground equipment?
Yes, modern pressure-treated timber (Wolmanit CX-8) is safe for playground equipment and meets European standards. It contains no chromium or arsenic, unlike older treatments.
