Houthandel Jan Sok calculates your material requirement in advance, free of charge. You supply dimensions, a sketch or photos; the advisers determine quantities, lengths and the matching fixings. The calculation is non-binding and does not oblige you to order. That way you neither over-order nor run short mid-project.
What do I need to supply for a material calculation?
Supply the main dimensions of your project (length, width, height), the project type, and photos of the current situation. A hand sketch is enough; construction drawings are not required. The quote form accepts up to five photos. The more complete the input, the more accurate the calculation and the quote.
Are you a contractor or sole trader with a construction drawing? Then we make a full material take-off per project: material take-off and job costing.
- Dimensions - length, width and height of the fence, deck, canopy or revetment
- Situation - what is already there, whether the ground is sand, clay or paving, and whether there is ground contact
- Preference - the species or look you have in mind, or simply ask what we advise
- Delivery or collection - this determines whether long lengths are practical

On a limited budget Houthandel Jan Sok looks at where more expensive material pays for itself and where it does not. Structure and anything in ground contact take priority; visible finishing can often wait or use a cheaper species. Phasing helps too: load-bearing structure first, cladding later.
Where saving usually works
- Pressure-treated pine instead of Douglas fir for parts that will be painted or stained anyway
- Sticking to standard lengths rather than cut-to-size - less waste and less offcut disposal
- Collecting in Meppel, or ordering above € 2,500 in one go (delivery within the Netherlands is then free, Wadden Islands excluded)
Where saving usually backfires
- On posts and anything in direct ground contact - replacing means redoing the whole job
- On fixings - rusting screws leave streaks on facades and decking
- On structural sizing for carports and canopies
