For the scaffold-wood look we supply new rough sawn boards in scaffold-board sizes: spruce 29 × 190 mm from €15.00 (4.00 m), Douglas fir 32 × 200 mm from €14.40 (3.00 m) and pressure-treated pine 30 × 200 mm from €19.20 (4.00 m). New or used scaffold wood?

Used scaffold boards have character, but also sand, nail holes, steel bands and varying thickness. New rough sawn timber is dimensionally stable and clean, so a table top or wall shelf stays flat. You create the weathered look with stain.

With 190 mm wide boards you need 5 strips (5 × 19 = 95 cm, rip one strip narrower). One 4.00 m board gives two 2.00 m strips.

Tips

  • Let the timber acclimatise indoors for a few days before making a table top.
  • Screw cleats through slotted holes so the top can move.
  • Outdoors: keep legs off the ground and treat the end grain.
