Step-by-step guide

1

1. Design & permits

Draw up a sketch with dimensions. Check with your local authority whether a building permit is needed (often permit-free up to 50% rear-garden coverage, max 3 m height).

2

2. Foundation

Use concrete pier foundations or steel-in-concrete foot plates. Ensure a solid, level base.

3

3. Posts & purlins

Erect the posts (min. 120×120 mm Douglas fir or 90×90 mm hardwood) and fix the purlins with stainless-steel timber connectors.

4

4. Roofing

Choose EPDM rubber (flat roof), polycarbonate sheets (allows light through) or roof tiles (classic look).
