What determines the wood price in 2026?

Four factors determine the price: the type of wood and durability class, the dimensions and processing (planed, impregnated, sawn to size), the availability on the world market and the transport and energy costs. European species such as Douglas fir and spruce are generally cheaper and more stable in price than imported tropical hardwood.

Douglas is one of the most popular types of wood for fences, canopies and decking in 2026 thanks to the favorable price-sustainability ratio. Hardwood - price indication

Tropical hardwood (Cumaru, azobé, Cumaru) is 30–50% higher per meter than Douglas, but without treatment 25 lasts for years or longer - even in ground contact. Decking planks - price indication

The price per m² of terrace depends greatly on the material: impregnated pine and Douglas are the most budget-friendly, hardwood and composite are in the higher segment but require less maintenance.
