At Houthandel Jan Sok in Meppel, we keep around 5,000 m² of Prolock in stock - the largest Prolock stock in the Netherlands. This guide covers everything you need to know, from dimensions and prices to installation instructions and frequently asked questions.
What is Prolock Sigma?
Prolock Sigma is a hybrid bank-revetment system that combines lightweight plastic panels with timber posts. The panels are made from recycled plastic and slide together easily using a unique interlocking joint - from above, without heavy tools.
The timber posts are driven into the ground to give the structure strength, while the plastic panels retain the soil. The result is a rot-proof, maintenance-free structure with a service life of 50 to 60 years.
Main benefits
- Service life up to 50–60 years - no rot, mould or rodent damage
- Maintenance-free - no staining, painting or pressure treatment required
- Lightweight - easy to transport and install
- Environmentally friendly - made from recycled plastic
- Flexible - available in 8 heights (50–250 cm)
- DIY installation - no specialist tools required
Prolock posts - strength for every panel
Prolock posts (cylindrically machined spruce posts Ø10 cm or hardwood) form the system's frame. The plastic panels slide between the posts, at a maximum centre-to-centre spacing of 1.50 m. For softer ground or higher revetments, we recommend hardwood or steel posts. Order all required posts from our bank-revetment category.
Prolock waterfront revetment
Prolock waterfront revetment is ideal along ditches, waterways and ponds: lightweight panels, a neat finish with a capping beam and decades of service without maintenance. Popular in water-rich Friesland - also available in Joure and Leeuwarden.
Prolock Sigma plastic sheet piling
Prolock Sigma plastic sheet piling consists of recycled plastic panels (50 cm wide) in 8 heights up to 300 cm. It is the core of the system - rot-proof, UV-resistant and easy to install without heavy machinery.

Frequently asked questions about Prolock
How long does Prolock bank revetment last?
Prolock Sigma has an expected service life of 50 to 60 years. The recycled plastic resists rot, mould, UV radiation and damage by rodents or insects. It therefore requires no maintenance throughout its service life.
Can I install Prolock bank revetment myself?
Yes, most private customers install Prolock Sigma themselves. The lightweight panels (5–17 kg) and simple sliding joint mean you do not need specialist tools. The manufacturer does recommend a strength calculation for revetments higher than 100 cm.
Do I need a permit for bank revetment?
That depends on your municipality and water authority. In many cases, revetment up to 1 metre high is permit-exempt, but you must always check with your water authority. Some water authorities require notification even when no permit is needed.
Which posts should I use with Prolock Sigma?
The manufacturer recommends cylindrically machined spruce posts with a minimum diameter of Ø10 cm. In harder soil or for deeper revetments, hardwood posts or steel tube piles may be required. Maximum post spacing is 1.50 metres centre to centre.
Is Prolock Sigma suitable for ponds?
Absolutely. Prolock Sigma is widely used around ponds and water features. The 50 cm-high panels are ideal for pond edges. The material withstands permanent contact with water.
What is the difference between Prolock Sigma and hardwood sheet piling?
Prolock Sigma is a hybrid system (plastic panels + timber posts), while hardwood sheet piling consists entirely of timber boards. Prolock is lighter, less expensive and easier to install. Hardwood offers a more natural appearance and is slightly stronger under extreme loads. Both are in stock.
