Tenco Douglas stain anthracite opaque (1.0 litre) is a opaque Douglas stain on an acrylic binder with water as the solvent, intended for Douglas fir and larch outdoors. The stain is low-odour, fast-drying and lower in solvent than alkyd alternatives. Do not apply in full sun or below 10 °C. Use on garden buildings, fences, screens, log cabins, palisades and climbing frames. Not suitable for hardwood and not for walk-on horizontal surfaces such as decking and terraces. Theoretical coverage 12–14 m²/l on planed timber, 6–8 m²/l on rough timber. Dust-dry after about 2 hours at 18 °C, recoatable after about 16 hours. VOC at most 20 g/l (EU cat. A/e: 130 g/l). Instructions for use
Application according to the Tenco product data sheet (July 2024):
- Substrate: New timber dry, clean and grease-free. Preferably weather it outdoors for several months so extractives or mill oil disappear.
- Maintenance: Sand old stain or paint back to bare wood. Lightly sand greyed timber until the wood colour returns.
- Stirring: Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not thin.
- Application: Apply a thin, even coat with a brush made for water-borne paints.
- Coats: Treat new timber at least twice; sand lightly between coats. Maintenance: 1 coat depending on the substrate.
- Conditions: 10–25 °C at max. 80% RH, not in full sun. Clean tools with water.
